FAQs

The following Frequently Asked Questions should help you when submitting your nomination to the NUS Awards 2014.

If you require further information regarding the awards and can’t find the information below – do get in touch with the NUS Awards team who will be more than happy to help.

Nominations

How do I apply?

Details of all categories and awards open for nominations can be found at nusawards.org.uk, as well as the key criteria for each award and tips on submitting a quality nomination.

You submit the nomination for an award on the NUS Awards 2014 website.

When is the deadline for nominations?

The deadline for nominations is Wednesday 7th May 2014 at Midday.

This is your very last chance – make sure you submit well in time before the deadline. You don’t want to miss out on your chance of winning an award just because your internet wouldn’t load!

How many awards can I nominate for?

Across all 4 categories, you can enter as many of the 14 awards as you like.

You are strongly encouraged to submit a nomination for every award that you are eligible for! The only restrictions on submissions are in the Organisation category - where you should select the award depending on the type of union you are nominating.

Can I submit more than one nomination for an award?

Yes!

There are no limits on the number of individuals from each institution that you can enter into the NUS Awards 2014.

Why can I only submit 1000 words to support my nomination?

When you’re writing your nomination, try to be clear and straight to the point. The word limit will help you think about what you should and should not include – don’t forget the judges will be reading many applications! Just like in a job application, they are not looking for a description of everything that has happened over the last year.

Think about the impacts you’ve had and read the criteria carefully – they are published to help you! Write your nomination on a word processor to help you edit and review your content. You’ll only get one chance to review your application before you submit it using the online application.

Supporting Documents

Can I submit any documents to support my nomination?

Yes! You’re able to submit one supporting document and one supporting image/photograph.

But remember that the judges will only use your supporting documents if they cannot decide between two entries. Whilst these could make all the difference later in the application, concentrate on submitting a high quality written submission first before worrying about your supporting documents.

What kind of documents can I submit?

You can submit any one document you like – from word processed files and presentations through to videos, posters and bar charts!

You can also submit one image or photograph. Make sure both are relevant to your application - but these documents aren’t what your nomination is initially judged on – so make sure you focus on your 1000 written word submission first!
